Welcome to Friends of Autism Highland

Friends of Autism Highland originated as a coffee morning for parents with children who had been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition. With several parents and carers benefiting from sharing their experiences and offering support to each other, it soon became clear that there was a growing need for a support group in the Highland region.

A Facebook page was established for the group, which quickly saw rising figures in the number of parents who requested to join. As outings and activities organised by Friends of Autism Highland became increasingly popular and families indicated that they were keen to support and raise funds for the group, it was decided to apply for charitable status.

Friends of Autism Highland became a registered charity in December 2013 and currently helps to support over 500 families across the Highlands who are affected by autism.

What we do…

We organise a wide range of events and activities, examples of which can be seen on our events page. In 2017 alone we arranged almost 100 events for our members to take part in. We also provide a means for parents to ask for advice and provide them with support and information through our closed Facebook page. Our events and Facebook page aim to help and support families affected by autism by offering opportunities for them to get together and share experiences.

Our supporters have fundraised for the group in a variety of ways including a sponsored run from Nairn to Inverness by members of Nairn County FC, participation in all categories of Baxters Festival of Running, cake sales, golfing events, mountain climbing and various Fun Days.

The success of Friends of Autism Highland is down to proactive parents all working towards the same goal; to provide the very best hep and support for the families of children in the Highlands who are diagnosed with autism or going through the diagnosis process .
